Getting the Boys Into Golf Without Breaking the Bank

One thing you'll learn about me pretty quickly...I'm all about trying things before making a huge investment.

The boys have been completely obsessed with golf lately. I blame Happy Gilmore...or maybe YouTube...either way, they've been asking to hit golf balls every chance they get.

Like most parents, I wasn't about to run out and buy brand-new clubs for two little boys who might decide next week that they're actually into fishing, baseball, or building forts in the woods.

So we started small.

A trip to Five Below got us foam golf balls and those little retractable plastic clubs. It was cheap, it was fun, and honestly...it worked. They were hooked.

That's when I knew it was time to level up.

A Budget-Friendly Upgrade

We stopped into Play It Again Sports in Blaine, and I honestly wasn't expecting to walk out with as much as we did.

After spending some time looking through everything, I found:

  • Two putters

  • Two irons that fit each of the boys

  • A golf bag

  • Plenty of golf balls

  • Tees

  • A few extra accessories

All for a price that made way more sense than buying everything brand new.

When your kids are growing as fast as mine are, spending hundreds of dollars on equipment they'll outgrow in a season just isn't realistic. Places like Play It Again Sports make it possible to let kids explore new hobbies without the financial pressure.

Why I Love Shopping Secondhand for Kids' Sports

There's something really satisfying about finding quality gear that still has plenty of life left in it.

Whether it's golf, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, or another sport, kids don't care if their clubs are brand new. They care that they get to play.

And if they stick with it? Great. You can always upgrade later.

If not...you didn't spend a small fortune figuring it out.

That's a parenting win in my book.

Next Project...

Now comes the important part...

Apparently I need to figure out how to build a putting green in the backyard.

I have a feeling this little golf phase isn't ending anytime soon.

Why I Started Signature Spotlight

This story is exactly why I launched my Signature Spotlight series.

I wanted a place where I could share businesses that become part of our everyday life...not because someone paid for an advertisement, but because we genuinely had a great experience.

Sometimes it's a local restaurant.

Sometimes it's a family attraction.

Sometimes it's a small business, a contractor, or a hidden gem that deserves more attention.

And sometimes...it's a sporting goods store that helped two little boys feel like the next Happy Gilmore.

These aren't scripted commercials.

They're real experiences, real photos, and honest recommendations from my family's perspective.

Want Your Business Featured?

If you're a local business owner looking for authentic exposure, I'd love to work together.

Through my personal brand and Jae Co. Services LLC, I create content that feels like a recommendation from a friend instead of another ad in someone's newsfeed.

That can include:

  • Signature Spotlight features

  • Photography

  • Short-form video & reels

  • Blog articles

  • Social media content

  • Website content

  • Google Business Profile photography

  • Brand storytelling

  • Honest product and service reviews

People connect with stories...not sales pitches.

If you'd like your business featured in an upcoming Signature Spotlight, let's start the conversation.
